Flow State

“Flow State”
My mind.
Relaxed. Immersed.
Soul ignited. Joyful.
Fluid energy. Time slipping.
Flow State.

Recently I have been studying and focusing on the word “Zeal” every morning as an exercise to stretch my thinking about ideas and my overall perception on life. Why “Zeal”? Because each month I choose a new word from “The 12 Powers of Man,” a system for spiritual development created by Charles Fillmore nearly a century ago. Fillmore talks about 12 words derived from the 12 Apostles: Faith, Strength, Wisdom, Love, Power, Imagination, Understanding, Will, Order, Zeal, Release and Life. At the beginning of each month I like to let my intuition choose a new word from this list.

This month I chose “Zeal.”

What I do is I try to look at the word from all directions, trying to avoid any judgments. Then whatever concepts or ideas pop into my head I write down in a journal. I do this to train my thinking to focus on new concepts and ideas that I might not otherwise have if I did not do this exercise each morning.

When I started thinking about Zeal I thought about what the question, “What gives us energy?” This led me to start thinking about the “Flow State,” which might be described as “being in the zone.” The Flow State is the state of being so fully immersed in an activity that time seems to fly by. It’s the fluidity between your body, mind and soul, a state of effortless motion and being in a sort of meditation state of mind. It is not forced. Your mind is calm, relaxed and joyful, and you are “in the moment.” This Flow State gives you energy and makes you feel alive like nothing else.

Think back to when you were a kid playing with your friends. Maybe it was a soccer game or a game of hide and seek. You felt alive! You laughed and played as time flew by. You were in a Flow State.

I mention this to hopefully inspire you to wake up each day and spend a little time doing something that you love to do. What excites your soul? What activities ignite your passion? What is something that causes you to lose the track of time and brings you joy?

Become fluid like the ocean wave and harness the energy that exists inside you. Do “that thing” that gives you Zeal each day and brings you into a Flow State.

Live, to Love Life!
