The Resistance

It’s 6:00 on Sunday morning and my alarm goes off. However, today in particular I am feeling a bit fatigued. My body and my current state of mind are getting a huge dose of “Resistance.” As I lay in bed my mind starts hearing the Resistance voice saying, “It’s Sunday! You’ve been working hard. Why don’t you just sleep in today?”

Resistance is the killer of your dreams. It is procrastination on steroids. That voice that says “I don’t feel like it today” has crushed billions of dreams throughout the history of humans.

Ignore the voice of resistance

You must learn to ignore this voice and listen to that other voice instead: your higher voice. My higher voice reminds me that I have an important painting that I need to finish this week. It reminds me that, “People are counting on you to come through. This project means a lot.”

So I will myself out of bed and go grab myself a coffee at Starbucks. As I sip my coffee, I take a deep breath. I have been here before.

I now know that the harder the Resistance voice is, the closer I am to something incredible. And this time…I listen to my higher voice instead, and get to work.

I paint for over 5 hours straight. I am in the zone! My eyes are seeing the details that I need to focus on. My mind is clear and mixing the colors comes easily. I am in the flow state. As I sit back and gaze at the painting I am working on, I take a slow sip of my coffee.

Get past your “Terror Barrier”

I smile as I remember the dozens of times that Bob Proctor spoke about what he called your “Terror Barrier.” This is your invisible wall that is blocking you from going to your next level. It’s the obstacles in your mind that you subconsciously put in front of you from achieving your big goal.

Bob would often say this quote from Joseph Campbell: “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.”

Our inner fears, our “Terror Barrier,” cause us to stay in our current status of life. We need to become aware of our fears and learn to push through them. Bob further explained that you need to work on your self-image in order to move forward. You need to learn to truly love yourself and give yourself permission to succeed, so you can become the person you were meant to be.

A wonderful book that Bob would often recommend is Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. I also highly recommend this book. It shows you a clear path to seeing the best in yourself as opposed to seeing only the limitations, flaws, and short comings. You need to see that you are God’s highest form of creation. You have inside you the ability to become whatever you focus on and believe. So do yourself a favor and listen to your higher voice and become the amazing you. The world will be happy that you did.

This morning my alarm went off at 5:00 am. I got up! I am listening to that higher voice.

Until next time.
